Love Thursday- Mommy Lessons

Chris posted a great list of lessons she's learned from being a mother at AlphaMom. I think it's a great exercise, to step back and evaluate what we are doing as parents, lessons learned, and to remember what is really important. What better way to show Love than to reflect on where we love the most-our family. Since I've been a mom for a little over 6 years, I figured I'd start with 6 Things I've Learned from Being a Mom. Feel free to add your own.

1) This too shall pass. It doesn't seem like it now. But, it will.
2) Just when I think I've got a handle on something, the wheel will fall off.
3) Life is too short not to sparkle. So, glitter it up. But, keep a dustbuster on hand for the glitter pick-up.
4) Chores can wait until after bed-time. Take the time to play and read with them now.
5) Listen to the silly songs. Encourage the silly. They like the silly.
6) Children learn by example, only show them what you want them to learn.

Happy Love Thursday.

Bloggy Business
This month marks my first year of blogging. I've learned so much this past year, with much more yet to learn. This month I'm trying a few new blogging ventures, including giveaways and even a sponsored contest. I also hope to move to a new blogging platform by the end of the year, so changes are afoot! There's quite a bit of debate going on about bloggers working with marketers. Our blogs are our platforms. I believe that we should cultivate our spaces to be representative of what we feel is most important-whether you talk about politics, photography, etc. I have a full-time career that took me years to obtain and from which I derive a great sense of accomplishment. I do not want to give that career up. For that reason, I joined the Clever Girls Collective (see sidebar) to help me find the right kind of blogging opportunities. Blogging is my hobby, not my job. Any sponsored opportunities or contests will be ones which I have thought about and meet my standards in that I either use the product or strongly believe in the product/line/brand. I will continue to post my unpaid and un-endorsed Friday Favorites. I just thought you should know. Also, expect more crafts, fashion, decor this month but no football b/c Oh my God, it has been terrible lately! Just kidding, you can find my football summaries over at Draft Day Suit.
This is an UNPAID and UNSPONSORED post. Also, there's nothing to win. Yet, but come back in a few days for something else.

Shabby Apple Dressing
I love giving shopping/fashion advice to my friends. I have an unused Groupon for Shabby Apple burning a hole in my pocket, so I thought it might be fun to get your opinion on how I should spend it.
I don't necessarily have a specific event in mind, but I do want a dress that can transition well from work to other events. I love dresses with feminine detailing like ruffles, pleats, belts, but I don't like looking to "twee" or young. I have these Shabby Apple dresses and love them.

So, which of the following would you choose?
Option A:
El Capitan- I need a Navy dress

Option B:
Trapeze-a fun fall dress. How cute would this be with brown boots?!

Option C
Gray Fox- I really need a Navy dress
Option D
Tiery Eyed- Who doesn't need another LBD? I think it looks like it would travel like a dream.

Houston Shopping Card- Friday Favorite

*Not a paid endorsement, I just really love the card and its mission.

Every year the Houston branch of the American Cancer Society brings together local retailers, salons, etc to offer discounted services and goods to benefit the American Cancer Society. The card requires a donation of $70, which then gives you the right to make purchases at 20% off at hundreds of Houston areas retailers. Tons (from Anthropologie, Gap, to Pottery Barn, and Restoration Hardware, plus lots of local places like Berings). We try to support most cancer research/support initiatives, especially local efforts. We've bought this card for years and feel good donating to this cause. Also, we've saved tons of money using the card. If you live in Houston, please consider purchasing a Shopping Card; it has a great mission. Helping others while helping yourself to a good deal- that's a Friday Favorite.

I took the day off Thursday to get a bunch of very glamorous things done-like carpet cleaning- I might have used my Shopping card today. I might have used to to buy this dress (Sold out online) in my size-on sale-plus 20%off. Score! *Yes, I got my promotion, but the dress was sold out when I went to buy it. The WONDERFUL Anthropologie saleswoman searched and searched until she found one in my size.

Cloudy with a Chance of Bitterness
I was in Austin this weekend with some good friends. Thankfully I did not attend the "game" (I use that term very loosely-Gah ARGH). After the "game," I desperately needed to run and headed for campus. I was not disappointed. I managed to run off most of my frustration with the Texas coaching staff and saw some favorite spots as I ran. I took these shots from various points using my phone-gotta love lightweight technology. (By the way, anyone have ideas for super small, lighweight cameras I could take with me on runs?)

The Tower (and "six pack") with gloomy skies. It's like God was upset with the Longhorns too!

The Stadium. Usually a place for much celebration. Notsomuch lately. The fountain outside the LBJ Library. I used to study on the right side of that hill in the Spring.

It was really fun to run through campus and not have to worry about an exam or paper. But, it would have been MUCH better if we'd won the game! Remember to stop by Draft Day later for my Big 12 recap.

Friday Favorite- Accessories Edition

Photo via Kate Spade

It’s no secret, I love clothes and fashion. After really looking for certain items over the past few years, I feel like my closet is pretty much what I need. (Except, I really need ALL the dresses from Mad Men, especially the black one Megan wore in the Season finale. Really really need that one). Now, my focus has turned to getting just the right accessories.

While looking at some shoes I adore, I found these bracelets at Kate Spade and I have to say that I love them. I have the black, brown, and pink. There are great discounts on Kate Spade about every month or two and eBay has a really brisk market for her accessories. I love stacking and mixing and matching bracelets and these are perfect to wear from work to evening.

Photo Darlybird

I have a definite vintage/retro asthetic and so Darlybird is one of my favorite places to shop. It’s a lot like a mom and pop version of Anthropologie. I am loving these and this right now.

Photo EmersonMade

I decided this week that what I really needed for my gray and navy suits, blazers, and dresses was a yellow flower, or a red one. I am in love with the pin on flowers from EmersonMade. One of my friends scolded me for looking at EmersonMade saying, “Elz, you can make one of those.” Why, yes, I can. Project-added for next weekend.

Accessories-the perfect Friday Favorite!

Favorite Photo-Travel Edition

About a month ago, I attended the wedding of my dear friend, Brooke. Brooke was married in her hometown of Asheboro, North Carolina. It is such a sweet small town, I had to capture some images. Here are my favorites.
I can't resist a red door. This one belongs to the wedding chapel. Unfortunately, photos weren't permitted inside. Too bad, it was a beautifully restored old chapel.

*I thought you'd appreciate not being able to see the hand injury on the front page!

Weekend in Pictures

The last few days we've been up to little things: A little outside time
A little festival time.
A little harvesting our bluebonnets for Fall planting
A little festival funnel cake.
A little Saturday evening speed drive to the neighborhood urgent care clinic.
You can thank me for taking what is the cleanest shot of this... and burying it several lines down.

A little crying.
More details later-but 13 stitches. What a trooper.
A little of this, a little of that. How about you? Any emergencies this weekend? Nope, that was probably just us, huh? Don't worry, we'll return to our regularly scheduled crafting, decorating, and fashion-ing soon!
